Academy Year End Production

CDA concludes the dance season with a quality theatrical dance production at a professional theater in downtown Columbus.

The production includes all dancers at the academy in 1st grade or older. The performance carries a story line created by the Artistic director (Robin Smith), intriguing characters, professional costumes and scenery and a wide variety of exciting music. Feature dance roles are available through an audition process for those participating in CDA’s Placement Program.

Unknown City

Melaynie lived in a small house with her mother and baby sister. Melaynie's mother sold flowers on the street corner. This winter was especially difficult because Melaynie's baby sister was very sick with an illness that had no cure. Melaynie took over selling the flowers while her mother cared for the baby. One day an old woman approached Melaynie while she was selling the flowers on the corner. She offered to trade Melaynie all of her flowers for a glass key that would open the door to The Unknown City. The old woman told her that she would find a cure for her baby sister’s illness in The Unknown City.

Melaynie quickly made the trade and then ran home to tell her mother. Melaynie's mother was frustrated with Melaynie's foolish trade. She threw the key and it shattered. Melaynie wept. Her tears fell upon the pieces and the glass reformed into a circle. Melaynie held up the glass circle into the sunlight and instantly she found herself in the Palace Of Flowers where the Mayor of The Unknown City lived. The Mayor warned Melaynie to be very careful of anyone in The Unknown City that appeared lovely because they would actually be the thorns of the city. Melaynie proceeded into The Unknown City where she encountered exciting adventures and difficult challenges. Melaynie soon discovered that her biggest challenge was exiting The Unknown City and returning home.
